James Mason Trivia

Starred with his wife 'Clarissa Kaye-Mason' in the original Salem's Lot (1979) (TV). They appeared together in the film, Age of Consent (1969).
11 years after being mentioned in Rope (1948) as making an excellent villain, he was finally cast by 'Alfred Hitchcock (I)' as such in North by Northwest (1959).
In 1952 while remodeling his home, he discovered several reels of 'Buster Keaton' 's "lost" films (Mason had purchased Keaton's Hollywood mansion) and immediately recognized their historical significance and was responsible for their preservation.
Was rejected by fellow student 'Alistair Cooke (I)' for an acting role whilst at Cambridge. Cooke asked Mason what course he was studying. "Architecture", replied Mason. "Then I think you should finish your degree and forget about acting." advised Cooke, in one of his rare lapses of judgment.
Was offered the part of Viktor Komarovsky in Doctor Zhivago (1965) by double-Oscar winning director 'David Lean (I)' after 'Marlon Brando' failed to respond to director Lean's written inquiry into whether he wanted to play the role. Mason initially accepted the part. Lean decided on Mason, who was a generation older than Brando, as he did not want an actor who would overpower the character of Yuri Zhivago (specifically, to show Zhivago up as a lover of Lara, who would be played by the young 'Julie Christie (I)', which the charismatic Brando might have done, shifting the sympathy of the audience). Mason eventually dropped out and 'Rod Steiger', who had just won the Silver Bear as Best Actor for his role as the eponymous The Pawnbroker (1964), accepted the role.

James Mason Mini Biography

Great English actor of British and American films. Born in Yorkshire, attended Marlborough and Cambridge, where he discovered acting on a lark and abandoned a planned career as an architect. Following work in stock companies, he joined the Old Vic under the guidance of Sir Tyrone Guthrie and of 'Alexander Korda', who gave Mason at least one small film role in 1933, but fired him a few days into shooting. Mason remained in the theatre becoming a prominent stage actor, meanwhile getting first small, then rapidly larger roles in "quota quickies", minor films made to accommodate laws mandating a certain percentage of films shown in Britain to be British-made. Mason's talent for playing protagonists of a decidedly hard-bitten or melancholy stripe brought him from these minor films to a position as one of Britain's major film stars of the Forties. When, late in that decade, he came to America, he played somewhat more glamorous or heroic roles than he had been accustomed to in Britain, but he remained a dynamic and intelligent force on the screen. His tendency to take any job offered led him to have many unworthy credits on his resume, but throughout his career he remained a respected and powerful figure in the industry. His mellifluous voice and an uncanny ability to suggest rampant emotion beneath a face of absolute calm made him a fascinating performer to watch. He died of a heart attack in 1984 at his home in Switzerland.

Waldo Salt Mini Biography

Waldo Salt was one of the many people blacklisted in Hollywood during the Red Scare, but unlike others, Salt recovered triumphantly. He wrote his first scripts in the late 1930s (MGM contract writer, 1936-42) and also served as a civilian consultant to the Office of War Information from 1942- 1945 before being blacklisted in 1951 after refusing to testify before HUAC. Salt spent several years writing under assumed names for various television series (low-budget series such as "Colonel March of Scotland Yard," for example) and undistinguished films before slowly turning his career around, working in more widely seen television and eventually winning two Oscars for his later work in film.

Ed is also a well-known stage actor and director in London. He directed Een Hond Begraven which won a Time Out award for best play on the London fringe, and also Happy Yet, a medley of short plays by George Feydeau. He has often appeared in plays at the Battersea Arts Centre, most recently impersonating the footballer Jackie Charlton in the Christmas pantomime World Cup 66 (despite being a keen skateboarder as a child, he also loves football!). He trained in mime at the famous LeCoq School in Paris, and worked with the world-renowned Complicite and Improbable Theatre. He often wears his crew top from Master & Commander in theater rehearsals.

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and a graduate of Colonel White High School, Dwayne had an interest in the arts from an early age. He had his first professional job with a local celebrity group called The Enchanted Dancers. Also excelling in gymnastics, he received first place in the city regional competition two consecutive years and tenth place in state regional competition on the floor exercise. But becoming an artist was his true passion. His acting career began with a theater group called Creekside Players and their production of "The Past is the Past" directed by Al Lane. Wanting to hone his artistic skills more, Dwayne decided to make a very bold move - he packed up what he could and took a bus all the way to Chicago. He attended acting classes at The Goodman Theater. He also received a scholarship for dance at The Ruth Page School of Ballet and another ballet scholarship with Chicago City Ballet studying under the well-known instructor, Maria Tallchief. These talents landed Dwayne the lead role of Tyrone Jackson in the hit Broadway Musical Fame. He received critical acclaim on the national tour. It was also a huge honor for him to record on the original cast album and appear on "Fame"(1992) the television series, as a dancer. Dwayne was also one of the African dancers in the unforgettable and classic scene in the motion picture Coming to America. This gave Dwayne even more drive and his acting career was just beginning at this point. He worked on many national commercials for Pepsi, Pringles, Key Bank, Sunkist, MCI, and California Lotto non-smoking public service announcements. Dwayne began to really show his versatility as an actor appearing on television shows including "Martial Law" (1998)where he played a street fighter to a role on "Noah's Arc" (2005), America's first gay black television series. Other film credits include Virtuosity (1995), Sgt. Bilko (1996), Redemption (2003) and The Exorcism (2005). Not only is Dwayne strong as a dramatic actor but proved he can do comedy as well. He recurred on the hilarious sketch comedy show "Mind of Mencia" (2005) airing on Comedy Central. Dwayne is also recurring on the new season of the late night sketch comedy show "Frank TV". The sky is the limit for this up and coming star.

Tink Mini Biography

Tink was born in Canada and raised in a multitude of Canadian and western European cities. Upon completion of university, he relocated to Tokyo and served as the assistant to Yasuo Kondo, Japan's leading commercial designer for a year. Over the following two years, he established his own Tokyo and New York based multi-disciplinary design firm, completing projects for clients around the globe. In 1994, Tink relocated to Vancouver in order to evolve his work into film. He wrote and directed the best selling short film "pamplemousse" as well as "the pick-up" and "Love is in the Air". Utilizing his strong design experience and talents, Tink began Art Directing for television with the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Welcome to Paradox" series, plus the action mini-series "Atomic Train". Shortly thereafter, he began to Production Design, specializing in projects with strong and unique visual images, including "Seed" the 2007 dark horror film from director Uwe Boll, "Beneath", a late 2006 release for Paramount/MTV Films feature from Writer/Director Dagen Merrill and the producers of "Napoleon Dynamite" as well as "House of the Dead" and "Alone in the Dark" which are based on popular video games. Tink also designed the multi-award winning film "Finder's Fee" for Writer/Director Jeff Probst. In 2002, Tink was nominated for a LEO Award in Vancouver for best production design of a dramatic television series with "The Chris Isaak Show". In 2000, at the Much Music Video Awards in Toronto, the video "Load Me UP", which Tink Art Directed for the Mathew Goode Band, won best music video of the year. Tink continues to write and direct short films, music videos and also Production Design. Concurrent with this, he is developing his debut feature.

This talented beauty has been acting all of her life. Josie Davis began her career at the age of 3, starring in numerous television commercials. She made such a lasting impression on industry executives that at the age of 12, Davis was invited to audition and was cast as a series regular on the hit television show "Charles in Charge." Davis played the adorable, intelligent poet "Sarah Powell" opposite heartthrob Scott Baio. The show was rated number one in syndication. After wrapping "Charles in Charge", the straight-A student graduated from high school and battled the image that she created playing the quiet, sweet, bookish, little girl. Although she had the option of entering USC's prestigious writing program, Davis decided to continue acting and to shed the "Sarah Powell" image. Around that time, Davis's father (an actor, artist and drummer) suggested that Davis watch "The Strange One", the first film produced by Lee Strasberg's highly respected Actors Studio. One of the film's stars, Paul E. Richards, later became Strasberg's "right hand man" and one of Hollywood's most respected acting coaches. Davis has studied the craft with Richards for seventeen years. Impressed with Davis's acting ability, Richards encouraged Davis to audition for the Actors Studio. At the age of 24, Davis auditioned for Hollywood heavyweights, Shelly Winters, Mark Rydell, and Martin Landau. Davis was accepted as a member after only two auditions. Although hundreds of people auditioned, only one other actor was offered a membership that year. Davis graduated to adult roles and quickly landed a role as a series regular on "Beverly Hills 90210" playing the part of sexy, "Camille Desmond", which she starred in through the end of the series. The following season, Davis was cast as a series regular on the Aaron Spelling show "Titans." Davis took a brief reprieve from television and was immediately cast in six films. After searching endlessly for the perfect actress, Nicolas Cage cast Davis in his directorial debut, "Sonny". Davis returned to television and landed parts in highly rated television films like "Psychic Murders" alongside Henry Rollins and James Russo. David Forline grew up in a gang infested neighborhood in South-East Los Angeles. From a very early age he studied Martial Arts, obtaining Black Belt rank and Mastery in four styles. Out of respect for his parents, David stayed clear of the gang life until it became un-escapable. It was at this time he became known as "Reaper". At 15 he passed the GED and quit High School and joined up with his neighborhood gang. He rose quickly through the ranks of his gang to be the youngest leader ever, before his 19th birthday. David is also a versatile accomplished musician. He was the lead guitarist and band leader of the popular punk band "The Revolt." He wrote and recorded many of the bands hits and the band played many sold out shows from the Sunset strip to CBGB's in New York City. His music brought him close to Jenapher Moguel, who became his wife and the mother of their 3 young sons. The birth of his first son brought a big change. Because of his honor, drive, dedication, and strong family values, David searched and found his passion in creating art with metal. He served an apprenticeship to become a Blacksmith. He quickly took to the "art" and is recognized as the best swordsmith around today. He later found out that he has ancestors on both sides of his family that worked in the trade. Jerry Goldsmith Mini Biography

Born February 1929, Jerry Goldsmith studied piano with 'Jakob Gimpel' and composition, theory, and counterpoint with 'Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco'. He also attended classes in film composition given by 'Miklós Rózsa' at the Univeristy of Southern California. In 1950, he was employed as a clerk typist in the music department at CBS. There, he was given his first embryonic assignments as a composer for radio shows such as "Romance" and "CBS Radio Workshop." He wrote one score a week for these shows, which were performed live on transmission. He stayed with CBS until 1960, having already scored "The Twilight Zone" (1959). He was hired by Revue Studios to score their "Thriller" (1960) series. It was here that he met the influential film composer 'Alfred Newman' who hired Goldsmith to score the film Lonely Are the Brave (1962), his first major feature film score. An experimentalist, Goldsmith constantly pushed forward the bounds of film music: Planet of the Apes (1968) included horns blown without mouthpieces and a bass clarinetist fingering the notes but not blowing. He was unafraid to use the wide variety of electronic sounds and instruments which had become available, although he did not use them for their own sake. He rose rapidly to the top of his profession in the early to mid-1960s, with scores such as Freud (1962), A Patch of Blue (1965), and The Sand Pebbles (1966). In fact, he received Oscar nominations for all three and another in the 1960s for Planet of the Apes (1968). From then onwards his career and reputation was secure and he scored an astonishing variety of films during the next 30 years or so, from Patton (1970) to Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) and from Chinatown (1974) to The Boys from Brazil (1978). He received 17 Oscar nominations but won only once, for The Omen (1976) in 1977 (Goldsmith himself dismissed the thought of even getting a nomination for work on a "horror show"). He enjoyed giving concerts of his music and performed all over the world, notably in London, where he built up a strong relationship with 'The London Symphony Orchestra'. He died in July of 2004 after a long battle with cancer.

Kathleen Freeman's introduction to show business came very early in life. Her parents were vaudevillians, and she made her debut at age 2 in their act. Later she attended UCLA with intentions of becoming a pianist, but was bitten by the acting bug and never looked back. She gained experience on stage in various stock and repertory companies, and made her film debut in 1948. One of the most memorable character actresses in recent memory, her stocky build, incredibly expressive face and hearty laugh have kept audiences convulsed for decades, playing a variety of neighborhood gossips, busybodies and eccentrics. Talbot Rothwell Mini Biography

A former police officer and pilot, Talbot Rothwell had an unorthodox entry into show business: as a prisoner of war in a German POW camp during WW II, Rothwell, out of boredom (and also to cover the noise of prisoners digging escape tunnels), got involved in camp entertainment shows, writing comedy sketches with fellow prisoner 'Peter Butterworth' (who later worked with him in the "Carry On" series). After the war Rothwell continued with his comedy writing, eventually achieving a degree of success in radio and on stage. Rothwell joined the "Carry On" series in 1963 with 'Carry On Cabby (1963)' (a script that wasn't originally supposed to be an entry in the series, but producer 'Peter Rogers (I)' liked it so much he used it for the "Carry On" gang and offered Rothwell a job as staff writer). Rothwell stayed with the series for an additional 19 films, retiring in the late 1970s. In 1977 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his work in the film industry. He died in 1981, at age 64.

Perhaps it was being born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Edison, New Jersey that bestowed Brittany Murphy with the adaptability that has allowed her to conquer a fairly prodigious amount of projects for her 25 years. Brittany first honed her acting skills in regional theater at the age of 9. By age 13, she had signed on with a manager and began appearing in television commercials. In 1991, at the age of 13, Brittany and her mother moved to Burbank, California, where she landed her first television role on the show "Blossom" (1991). Douglas Busby's vast experience in film and television has spanned almost two decades. He has over 80 film & television productions to his credit, having worked as a Director, Producer, Assistant Director, Camera Operator, Camera Assistant, and Actor, for such companies as Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, and Sony Entertainment. In addition he has been a camera operator & camera assistant on more than 50 music videos and commercials. Busby studied at Vancouver Film School, New York University and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre where he learned film directing, screenwriting and acting. He is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, The Screen Actors Guild, International Documentary Association and the Society of Operating Cameramen. Busby has directed two Documentaries on the Northern Irish peace process for his company Damascus Films, which are currently in post-production. For these documentaries he interviewed Senator George Mitchell, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams, Rev Ian Paisley, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate John Hume, Martin McGuinness, Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds and Father Alec Reid (along with 50 other politicians, paramilitaries, University professors and clergymen.) He directed & produced a concert DVD with Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, shot by Academy Award winning Cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC. He is currently adapting The Shankill Butchers for the screen in collaboration with best-selling author Martin Dillon. He directed a segment of a documentary in Burma on Aung Sun Suu Kyi for Jack Healey, The Human Rights Action Center, and The US Campaign for Burma. Currently in pre-production: A feature film based on the award winning play, The Pagans, which will be shot on-location in Ireland.
